Christmas Break December 12th to January 9

Monday, October 31 2011 7:00 PM

The Oak Lawn Band is currently in its 32nd Symphonic Band Season.  The Symphonic Band just finished up 2011 with a very successful Holiday Concert.   Besides featuring our Flute and Clarinet Choirs we also featured our Conductors Todd Woods and Marc Cervantes in "Baby, It is Cold Outside", with the trumpet player convincing the sax player to stay in for a while.

The leaves are falling and it is now raining here in North Texas and its time to celebrate the season with friends and family.   As we look back on 2011 we have alot to be thankful for and celebrate all our accomplishments. The Oak Lawn Band continues to grow in all the important ways with a number of new musicians, new music, new assets like instruments and stands, and our audiences.   The only problem that we experienced at our last concert was that we outgrew our space and were at capacity.    This is not a bad problem to have but we will have to look for a larger venue for our Holiday Concert next year.

The Oak Lawn Band has a significant challenge in the coming year with hosting the Lesbian and Gay Band Association conference here in Dallas; September 13th to the 16th, 2012.   Plans have been in place for more than a year but when January gets here we will need to kick into full speed planning all the details.    We are expecting more than 200 guest from around the world that will be visiting us.   We are planning a concert on Saturday, September 15th at the Majestic Theater, being joined by our friends from the Turtle Creek Chorale, as well as a performance in the Alan Ross Pride Parade and Festival on Sunday, September 16th.   Stay tuned for more information.

The band comes back to start rehearsals on Mondays  (7:30 - 9:30pm) starting January 9th.   We have a number of performances scheduled for 2012 with our next public concert scheduled for April 1st (Really)!  Sunday, April 1st 7pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

If you are a musician, come join us. As a community band no auditions are required.  Please contact us at info@oaklawnband.org.
